Three Kings invited to WJAC tryouts

The Powell River Kings are very proud to announce three of their players, forwards Kyle Betts and Carter Turnbull along with defenceman Andy Stevens have received invites by Hockey Canada to tryout for Team Canada West at this years World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alberta.

Hockey Canada announced the camp roster earlier today which featured 60 players from across western Canada, including 60 BCHL players.

This season Betts has excelled as a two-way threat, playing in all aspects of the game while recording seven goals and 12 assists in 28 games. Betts is regularly the first man over the boards in high-leverage face-off situations, along with penalty kill and power play time.

Turnbull has picked up on the scoring pace he finished last season, finding the back of the net 12 times to go along with 13 assists in 27 games. He is on pace to surpass his 21 goals and 19 assists from last season.

Stevens has evolved into a reliable two-way defender who is relied upon to play big minutes against opposing teams top players. Along with plenty of penalty killing time, Stevens has also upped his offensive games so far this season. He has scored once and registered 12 assists through 28 games, on pace to nearly double his output from last season.

This isn’t the first time Betts and Turnbull will pull the Team Canada logo over their heads. Last year the two made the Team Canada West roster and helped the team to a gold medal finish in Cobourg, Ontario.

Turnbull recorded an assist in four games and Betts scored once in four games.

The Kings would to congratulate Kyle, Carter and Andy on their invitations, and wish them the best of luck at the tryout camp next weekend in Penticton.
