Vipers win 2-1

Vernon Vipers slipped by the Kings 2-1 on Friday night in a typical tight checking game between the two old rivals.

Kings held a slight 8-4 advantage in shots on goal in the first period but neither team had a grade A chance to open the scoring.

Lots of early pressure in the second for the home team but still nothing on the scoresheet.

In fact Vernon got the first goal of the game with the Kings a little disorganized in their own end and Dancs fired it by Imoo at 11:23.

The 1-0 lead held up through the rest of the period and after a good opening in the third by the Kings Ryan Scarfo evened the score.

Chatham cleared the puck hard into the corner and the puck wobbled off it, skipped over a Vernon player's stick and into the slot. Several players had whacks at it but Scarfo was the only one who had success and he drilled it by Todosychuk to tie the game.

Still playing a tight checking, fast game well into the third Vernon got a break and made the most of it.

They scored on the powerplay at 15:20 on a nice three way passing play that ended with the league's leading goal scorer, Mason Blacklock, getting the goal.

Despite a powerplay, a pulled goalie and a lot of rubber thrown at the Viper net in the last two minutes, Kings failed to get the equalizer and suffered a 2-1 loss at the 'hands' of the Vipers.

Kings outshot the Vipers 26-17 but the big statistical difference was the one powerplay goal by the visitors in three tries while the Kings were 0 for three.
