Kings win sixth straight, 4-2 over Victoria

The Powell River Kings (27-16-1-0) continue to roll since the Christmas break, sporting a perfect 6-0 record since returning after downing the Victoria Grizzlies (27-9-3-4) 4-2 Saturday night.

The Kings opened the scoring in the game when Carter Turnbull was able to capitalize on a goal mouth scramble. Grizzlies goalie Tony Rehm didn’t know where the puck was, and Turnbull found it behind the goalie and tapped it in eight minutes into the first.

That was all the scoring in the first, and it took until a little over the halfway point of the second for more goals to come.

Unfortunately for the Kings, the Grizzlies struck twice in 35 seconds, First Jake Stevens fired the puck on net from the left point, and Cameron Thompson perfectly deflected it over the glove of Mitch Adamyk to tie the game.

Just seconds later, another shot from the point was stopped in front of the net by Justin Michaelian, and he stretched out and slid the puck past Adamyk just 35 seconds later.

The Kings were unfazed though and with five and a half minutes left in the period they would tie it. Jonny Evans sent a perfect cross-ice pass from the far corner to the near corner and Cam Donaldson was able to fire home his 30th of the year to tie it up heading into the third.

The Kings would add two goals in the third, the first being Tristan Mullin as he had the puck at the left face-off circle after taking a pass from Jake Kohlhauser. Mullin walked to the front of the net before sliding a backhand shot through the legs of Rehm to give the Kings the lead again.

The score stayed 3-2 until the final minute when Turnbull banked a shot off the boards of his own bench, and it went right into the empty net to make the final score 4-2.

The Kings are right back in action this afternoon against the Grizzlies as they try and sweep their three-game Island trip.
