The Powell River Kings would like to wish all the best to Michael McNiven as he is strapping up the pads once again and returning to professional hockey, signing with Blue Devils Weiden in Germany.

"Deep down I knew I still had more to give on the ice" says McNiven "You only get one life and I'm still young enough to chase my childhood dream, so I've made the decision to return to professional hockey and sign in Germany."

The 28 year old former CHL goalie of the year last played professionally during the 2023-24 season, splitting time in the ECHL and Ligue Magnus in France before retiring and accepting a coaching position here in Powell River. McNiven also has 84 games in the AHL under his belt and he played one game for the Montreal Canadiens during the 2021-2022 season.

"Coaching in Powell River was an incredible experience that I'll always be grateful for and cherish." adds McNiven "I loved leading and helping young players grow, not just as players but great human beings. I love and will miss being a Powell River King."

We would like to thank Michael for all his work on and off the ice last season, we'll be cheering him on here in Powell River.
