Camp Day 2, Green wins 5-2

A Luke McCaw hattrick, including a pretty pretty goal late in the 2nd period wrapped a 5-2 win for Team Green over Team White on Thursday night.

McCaw was a threat all night long, connecting with both JJ Coleshaw and Matt Scarth to bring up his first two tallies. But it was a 1-on-2 individual effort where he managed to split the D, and roof it over the shoulder of Jonah Imoo that drew the night’s biggest reception from the 100+ fans that took in the contest. Matt Scarth and Jeremy LeClerc scored for Green in the win, with Drew Dorantes and Nyshan Basra scoring for White, who opened up a 2-0 lead early.

After the game, I caught up with Matt Scarth who talked about the tilt, the camp and his thoughts heading into his final year of Junior.

Also caught up with defenceman Aidan Wright, who is in a unique situation. A 20-year old defenceman with plenty of Junior A experience, but at a different camp for the first time in 4 years. We chatted about that, as well as his adjustment to Powell River.

Game 2 in the Green vs White series is tonight at 7pm and is free to attend. Great crowd last night with many ‘stand scouts’ making their own judgements on the players.
