Chatham Commits to LSSU

Outgoing Powell River Kings defenseman Kyle Chatham has secured his hockey and educational future by committing to the NCAA’s Lake Superior State University for the 2014/15 season.  He joins fellow teammate, Aidan Wright, who committed to the Lakers in May.

Chatham, 21, spent just one season in Powell River with the Kings, playing in 59 regular season and playoff games.  He scored three goals and added 12 assists.  Kyle missed the entire 2012/13 season with an injury.  Prior to that, he played in the United States Hockey League, where he won a Clark Cup as a member of the Green Bay Gamblers.

The Belleville, Illinois product was a key piece of the King’s defense last season and thrived in the role of a “shut down” defender.

“Kyle played a lot of tough minutes last season against the other team’s top lines.  He was great on the penalty kill and a good leader in the dressing room” says Kings Head Coach and General Manager Kent Lewis.  “We are very happy that he’s going to Lake Superior State.  It’s a great opportunity for Kyle to continue to play hockey at a very high level.  He should fit in very well with the new coaching staff at the school.”

The Lake Superior State Lakers play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the NCAA.  The conference features teams like Alaska-Anchorage (Chris Williams, Andrew Pettitt), Alaska-Fairbanks (Jordan Burns-2015), Ferris State (Drew Dorantes), Michigan Tech (Jamie Phillips), Minnesota State (Jon Jutzi), and Northern Michigan (Cohen Adair).
