Chiefs spoil Kings return home

After 3 weeks and 7 games on the road the Kings finally returned to the Hap to take on new division foe the Chilliwack Chiefs in the first of 4 meetings this season.

With the home crowd on their side the Kings looked to get them involved with a hot start but the Chiefs had other ideas as Cam Johnson fed AJ Lacroix in the slot who snuck behind the defence and one timed in past Brice to open the scoring. The chiefs would continue to roll forward as within 15 seconds of a 4 minute power play Chiefs forward Dawson Good sniped home the powerplay marker to make it 2-0 before Conner Millburn made a great move to the next and beat Zak Brice five hole to make it 3-0 at the end of the 1st period.

The Kings tried to really in the 2nd but the chiefs kept on applying pressure and it was defenceman Xavier Henry scoring off the faceoff as it took a deflection on it’s way towards the goal. It was the lone marker of the period as the Chiefs would lead 4-0.

In the third the Kings battled hard looking to get on the board but Chiefs netminder Grant Riley was on his game stopping everything that came his way. Caleb Parkhouse tried to get the boys energized as he dropped the gloves with Henry in a spirited tilt. The boys would continue to apply pressure but just couldn’t solve Riley. The Chiefs would add one more in the dying minutes and take the game 5-0.

Grant Riley would make 23 saves to shutout the Kings while the Kings PP went 0 for 7 on the night.

The rematch will go down Saturday Nov 6 at the Hap. Puck drop is scheduled for 6pm.
