This past weekend the Kings' coaching staff organized a successful spring try-out camp in Courtenay with over 80 players hitting the ice.
The camp ran from Friday to Sunday and featured 5 teams playing in a 4 on 4 format. Camp participants were named to teams titled after former Kings including Bombardier, Bell, McNeil, Elfring,Gordon, and Hoggan where they were challenged to dig up a little history on these former Powell River stars.
Kings' GM and Head Coach Kent Lewis felt that the format was a success. "The 4 on 4 allowed to players to get more ice time and highlighted speed, skill and an increase in the on-ice thought process."
"The players worked hard. There was a mixture of ages with a lot of the players being between the '94-'96 age range which was great. The games were close, fast, and physical. We look forward to phase 2 of our spring camps coming up in Kamloops this weekend."
An update on Coach Lewis's thoughts will be on the site ofter the Kamloops' Spring Camp next weekend.
