Dustin Slade hired as new Goaltending & Video Coach

The Kings are excited to announce the hiring of Dustin Slade as the teams new Goaltending & Video Coach.

“I feel really excited to get started in Powell River and be part of such a proud organization.” says Slade “The Kings have a great community and tradition and I’m looking forward to contributing to that.”

The Penticton native had a very long and successful junior career between the pipes that spanned 6 years with stints in the BCHL and WHL. He played in 68 BCHL games with the Penticton Panthers, Quesnel Millionaires, and Surrey Eagles, and he suited up in 132 regular season contests in the Western League with the Kamloops Blazers, Brandon Wheat Kings, Regina Pats, and Vancouver Giants. During his career, Slade won two league championships. The first came in 2005 with the Surrey Eagles, then the following year he went on to lead the Vancouver Giants to their first WHL title with a 16-3 playoff record, 1.40 GAA, and a .936 save percentage.

With a history of winning, 200 games played in junior hockey, and many years of coaching under his belt, Slade is looking forward to working with the Kings goaltenders and bringing the same success he had during his junior career right here to Powell River. “I’ve gained a lot of experience over the years, from consulting goalies to working with minor hockey programs at the AAA level and junior level. That background has given me a strong foundation to helping players grow both on and off the ice.” adds Slade “My main focus this season is on developing our talented goalies and helping them reach the next level. I want to give them the tools and confidence they need to succeed in their careers. I’ve been blessed and fortunate to have won multiple championships, I have a winning pedigree and I know what it takes to win. That is the standard I want to bring to the goalies and players I’m working with here in Powell River.”
