Five Kings named to Canada West Camp Roster

Five Powell River Kings have earned the right to tryout for a spot on Canada West’s roster for the 2011 World Junior A Championships, being held this November in Langley. Goaltender Sean Maguire is one of six netminders on the squad and is joined by Powell River team mates Jordan Paddock, Evan Richardson, Matt Scarth and Teagan Waugh.

Maguire, 18, was backup to Michael Garteig last season and recorded a 10-3-0 record through 15 games, with a 2.50 GAA and .903 save percentage.

Paddock, 18, is a native of Regina, SK played in Melville last season where he had 11 points in 52 games.

Evan Richardson was traded to the Kings from Victoria during the off-season, and tallied 42 points in 55 games with the Grizzlies. He is expected to be a leading offensive threat this year.

Scarth, 18, had 54 points in 34 games for the Calgary Midget AAA Buffaloes last year, also tallying 113 penalty minutes. He also saw action briefly in the AJHL with the Calgary Mustangs and Camrose Kodiaks.

Finally, Teagan Waugh is entering his 3rd season with the Kings and coming off his most production campaign. He had 23 points in 42 games during the 2010/2011 season, including a game winning goal.

Congratulations to Sean, Jordan, Evan, Matt and Teagan on your selections! The tournament runs November 7-13 in Langley, with the selection camp occuring next week, September 12-14 in Canmore, Alberta.
