Five of Coastal teams to Welcome Malmo Redhawks

The British Columbia Hockey League will welcome the Malmo Redhawks junior team from Malmo, Sweden for a five-city tour that will begin on December 31st in Powell River and conclude in Cowichan Valley on January 5th.

Malmo competes in Sweden?s J20 SuperElit League, which is the highest-level junior league in the country. The Redhawks have been a stepping stone for many future National Hockey League players, including Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen, Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Kim Johnsson and Edmonton Oilers rookie Magnus Paajarvi.

The Redhawks will begin their five-game tour of the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island when they face the Powell River Kings on December 31st. Visits to the Nanaimo Clippers on January 1st, Alberni Valley Bulldogs on January 2nd, Victoria Grizzlies on January 4th and Cowichan Valley Capitals on January 5th will follow. “The Malmo Redhawks will provide an exciting challenge for five of our teams and an entertaining brand of hockey for our fans,” says BCHL Commissioner John Grisdale. “I?m certain that our five teams and communities will provide exceptional hospitality for their players and coaches and that the games will be a great chance for our players to face a talented opponent.”

Each of the Redhawks? five games will be broadcast on BCHL Live pay-per-view, with pricing and package details to be released prior to the start of the tour.

Kings fans, tickets are now on sale! You can purchase them from the Kings office during the week as well as on game nights during the intermissions.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for youth, $12 for children. All seating is reserved. Season ticket holders are entitled to their seats until December 1, 2010.

After the game, the Kings will be hosting a New Years party! Tickets are $30 and include dinner, dancing & lots of activities for the whole family!
