Gameday: Kings @ Capitals (7:00pm Puck drop)

It will be a battle of the missing tonight, as both the Kings and the Capitals are both missing key personnel from their opening weekend contests against Nanaimo and Victoria respectively. Both squads were successful in their opening two games, and will both put their 2-0 records on the line in Duncan tonight. Here’s the rundown on both teams:

What’s What for the Kings?
The Kings will be without the services of the suspended Matt Scarth, Evan Richardson and Kent Lewis tonight. All three were suspended by the league yesterday for their involvement in the brawl during Saturday’s contest with the Clippers. Scarth and Richardson will also miss Saturday’s tilt against Langley. The good news is that the Kings aren’t reliant on first line scoring, as Cohen Adair showed on Saturday, when he scored two short handed goals. The blue line is getting into the act too , with Jon Jutzi’s powerplay goal on Saturday and several good chances from Craig Dalrymple, you get the feeling that if one line is shut down, another can step up and do just as much damage.

What’s What for the Capitals?
In addition to missing key personnel, the Capitals will be a totally different looking team this year. Only 4 players return from last year’s squad, that also has a new Head Coach. The Caps will be without the services of Derek Dun (G), Dylan Rota (F), Kyler Bruce (F) and Josh Monk (D) tonight, thanks to their participation in a line brawl over the weekend against the Grizzlies. Still lots of scoring threats from this side, as Steven Iacobellis and Devin Gannon had great opening weekends and are in the lineup tonight. On the back end, Vinny Muto is the guy the Kings will need to target, as he might shoulder more responsibility given Josh Monk’s suspension.

What’s on the Broadcast?
During the 1st intermission, we will continue our Light the Lamp series, this time with rookie forward Tanner Cochrane. Then in the 2nd intermission, we’ll begin a new series on the best teams in the country, and those that could contend at this year’s RBC Cup in Saskatchewan. We’ll talk with Tyler King, who is the voice of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons about his team’s changes and chances this season.

The broadcast, as always, is available in 95.7 SunFM, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45, with the puck drop at 7! We’ll be giving away some tickets to Saturday’s game against Langley with our trivia question, and I’d suggest brushing up on your goaltenders if you’re not an expert already! You can also catch the game online through the BCHL’s Scoreboard page. I hope you enjoy the broadcast tonight, the game should be a good one, as Cowichan has really turned some heads already this year with their re-build!
