Garteig Named Player of the Week

Powell River Kings netminder Michael Garteig has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending November 21, the league announced Monday.

Garteig backstopped his team to an undefeated week, posting a 2-0-2 record and a .958 save percentage on 118 shots he faced in the four games. The 19-year-old Prince George product allowed just five goals in that span for a sparkling goals-against average of 1.15.

Garteig is now on a personal nine-game unbeaten streak and leads BCHL goalies in wins (17), goals-against average (1.52), save percentage (.938), shutouts (4) and minutes played (1500).

When asked about receiving the award, the Kings' goalie notes that, “It's flattering and an honour to receive this award. Of course, our eyes as a team are on the bigger prize at the end of the season.”

Honourable mentions this week go forwards Brendan O'Donnell and Mark MacMillan of the Penticton Vees and defenceman Tom Kroshus of the Westside Warriors.
