King Quartet Earn Honourable Mentions

Four Powell River Kings have taken out honourable mentions for this past week’s BCHL Player of the Week award, won by  Penticton goaltender Jack LaFontaine.

Mitch Adamyk got a nod on the heels of back to back wins against the Victoria Grizzlies. Adamyk stopped 61/64 shots, collecting a first star for his win on Saturday, a 6-1 score. Neal Samanski made the list as well with a solid offensive weekend that included a goal and 4 assists over the three games. The second year King also took out 2nd star honours on Friday night, part of a 5-2 win.

Ryan Brushett returned to the Player of the Week list with a 3 goal, 3 assist week that included a 2nd star nod on Saturday and 3rd star effort on Sunday in Alberni Valley, where he had the game winning goal early in the third period. Brushett continues to lead all BCHL goal scorers with 33. Finally, Levi Glasman got an honourable mention with a 4 goal, 1 assist weekend which included his third BCHL hattrick (and first of the season) in the 6-1 win on Saturday. Glasman was named 1st star on Saturday night, and 3rd star on Friday.

Penticton Vees goalie Jack LaFontaine has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20, the league announced Monday.

LaFontaine turned aside 111 of 116 shots over three road games, each of which the Vees won in the shootout where the netminder was just as good as he made 16 saves on 18 shootout attempts. The Mississauga, Ont. native made 35 or more saves in each game including 39 of 40 in a 2-1 win in Merritt on Jan. 20 where he was named 1st Star. For the three-game road trip, LaFontaine posted a .957 save percentage and a 1.54 goals-against average.

He also took 2nd Star honours in a 3-2 win in Wenatchee where he made 37 stops. LaFontaine is now second in the BCHL in both save percentage (.921) and goals-against average (2.16) and is fourth in minutes played (1,997).
