Kings 6 Express 5 in OT

Kings Win 6-5 in OT at Gibsons

The Powell River Kings swept the season series against the Burnaby Express with a 6-5 overtime victory Sunday afternoon. Unlike the night before where the Kings came out and heavily outplayed their opponent the Express traded chances with the Kings and posted a 2-0 lead before the game was seven minutes old. Justin DaSilva?s 5th of the season cut the lead in half just over three minutes later.

In the second DaSilva pulled the Kings even three seconds into a power play with a slapper on a clean face off win from Mitch Labreche. After the Express regained the lead Ben Schmidt tied it again with an acrobatic effort on his 15th of the year then Andrew Pettitt gave the Kings their first lead of the game with his team leading 32nd on another power play with less than 90 seconds remaining in the period.

In the third Burnaby restored their lead for the third time in the game with a pair before Schmidt?s second of the game tied it again with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.

Over time didn?t last long when a Mat Bodie stretch pass found a streaking Chad Niddery down the left side beating Robin Billingham top shelf 45 seconds into the extra frame.

Final shots were 51-33 Kings while they went 2 for 4 on the PP. Michael Garteig posted his 14 win of the season. The Burnaby home game was played at the Gibson?s arena on the Sechelt Peninsula between Powell River and Vancouver in front of a capacity crowd of 675.

Schmidt and DaSilva led the Kings with a pair of goals and three points each. Pettitt had two points. Niddery leads the Kings with 61 points and has three game winning goals on the year. Jordan Grant and Mat Garbowsky lead the team with seven GWG each.
