Kings alum Garbowsky earns Atlantic Hockey Honours

Former Powell River Kings standout and Coastal Conference MVP Matt Garbowsky has been named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week playing for the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers.

Garbowsky scored two goals and added two assists and was plus-4 in a pair of wins over Canisius College. On Thursday, the St. George, Ont. native scored the insurance marker and was plus-2 in a 3-1 win at Canisius, then followed that up with a career-high three points on a goal and two assists and was plus-2 in a 5-3 win on Saturday.

He scored to make it 2-0 early in the second period, then assisted on RIT’s fourth and fifth goals to put the game away in the third period. Garbowsky now has 16 points (7-9-16) and is plus-11 in 30 games this season.

Last season in Powell River, Garbowsky led the Kings with 44 goals in earning the Vern Dye MVP trophy. In two seasons with the Kings, Garbowsky had 71 goals and 62 assists in 107 games.
