Kings fall 5-4 in shootout to Express

BURNABY (April 15, 2021) – In a tightly contested game that went the distance, the Powell River Kings lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Coquitlam Express. It was the first shootout for the Kings since February 24, 2019.

Powell River opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal from Caleb Parkhouse, his first in the BCHL, but the Express responded with 20 seconds left with Ryan Suzukovich’s first of the season.

Both sides would exchange more goals in the second period. Adamo Santia converted on the power play at 4:40, however Sam Marit would be quick to respond less than two minutes. Santia would get another power play goal late in the period to give the Kings the lead, but Daniel Juca got the Express back even 18 seconds later.

Parkhouse would score his second goal 1:41 into the final period, but Tyler Schleppe tied the game up for Coquitlam 15 seconds later to even the score at 4.

With overtime unable to break the deadlock, the shootout went four rounds with Nolan Krogfoss being the lone scorer for the Kings and Danny Pearson and Keeton Oakley scoring for Coquitlam, the latter getting the game winner.

Goaltender Nick Peters took the loss for the Kings, stopping 31 of 35 shots faced. Dylan Kruss for Coquitlam also made 31 saves for his second extra time win.

A long stretch awaits, as the first of four games in a five day stretch is completed. The Kings have a quick turnaround with a game on Friday night at 7:30pm against the Surrey Eagles at Scotia Barn.
