Kings Fall to Express 4-1

Not many positives to take from a tough 4-1 loss to the Coquitlam Express on Saturday night.

In a season series where special teams had been such a deciding factor, the Express took the lead late in the 1st period on the powerplay through Mitch Nardi’s shot from the point. The Express doubled the lead just 16 seconds into the 2nd period on a weird deflection in front of Sean Maguire, then added another just past the 7 minute mark, Nardi’s 2nd of the game to make it a quick 3-0 game.

Cody Michelle would make it 4-0 midway through the 2nd, again on the powerplay and the Express had full control of the hockey game. The lone bright spot was late in the 3rd period, Matt Scarth would add his 13th of the season on a pretty goal as he dangled into the slot and put it past Khaleed Devji.

4-1 the final, the Kings go 2-1 this weekend. The team returns home on Friday for a game against the Eagles, before heading to the island for two straight on Saturday against the Bulldogs, then Sunday afternoon against the Grizzlies.
