Kings fight their way back with 3-2 overtime win

There's no denying it was a struggle for the Kings in game five against the Grizzlies but despite the 'hockey gods' and some dubious calls they perservered and won a big overtime game.

Kings brought a ton of 'want' to this one and outplayed the Gizzlies by a wide margin.

After a scoreless first period which saw the Kings have numerous chances to score it was the Grizzlies who got the first goal of the game in the second period.

Pernerowsky got it on the powerplay after Andrew Pettitt took a 4 minutes penalty for spearing on the opening faceoff.

Pettitt redeemed himself at 14:34 when he tied the game and the large crowd was able to breathe again.

Carter Shinkaruk put the Kings up 2-1 when Forbes forced a turnover and Shinkaruk let a harmless looking shot go that snuck under the pad of Ginn.

It looked like that was all they would need but nothing is coming easy for the Kings in this series and the Grizzlies tied it 2-2 with a minute to go in the game.

Kings had the jump in the overtime but were almost foiled when referee Iverson called a roughing penalty against Chris Williams.

Kings killed the penalty and Garteig made a couple of great saves to keep the Kings in it.

Buoyed by the kill, Chad Niddery, who had another great game for the Kings, took the puck over the blueline and dropped it to Jutzi who let go a slap shot that beat Ginn high glove.

The place went nuts and really, the Kings deserved this one from the get-go.

Game six in Victoria is on at the Evergreen Theatre for fans who want to cheer the Kings and bring them back to Powell River for game 7.  The Evergreen doors will open at 6:30pm and the puck drops at 7:10pm, entry by donation.
