Kings hold off Caps 5-4

Kings got a couple of players back in the lineup in time for a pair of games against the Cowichan Valley Capitals on  Friday and Saturday.

Friday's start was a little tentative on both sides with neither looking very sharp.

First good chance came on Jordan Burn's powerplay point show that was tipped off the crossbar by Dorantes but stayed out.

Kings did get their first on the powerplay at 17:12 when Luke Nogard, parked in front of the net, one time a great pass from Keats.

They got another one on special teams, but this time shorthanded with Scarfo harrassing the Caps inside their own blueline and they coughed up the puck to Dorantes who went down the right wing and wired the shortie at 14:49.

Cowichan struck before they could announce the goal though at 15:08 and just like that it was 2-1.

Kings got their second powerplay goal at 17:19 Rideout's point shot through a crowd hit Gusse and went to Keats by the backdoor and he drilled it.

Up 3-1 Kings were, again, caught napping as the Caps scored at 18:06 when Malkowich was left alone to score to make it 3-2.

Luckily, Kings got a softy with 9 seconds left in the period when Scarfo roared down the right wing and with Lukosevicius as a decoy, backhanded a shot along the ice and in to go up 4-2.

Kings Dorantes gave his team a three goal cushion at 1:17 of the third when he tipped in a hard slap pass from Rideout on the point.

Seemed to be a case of just working hard and maintaining but the Caps got one back on a tipped point shot at 9:18 and another on a giveaway and shot that beat Imoo low glove side at 16:38.

That completed the scoring as the Kings held on for the 5-4 win.
It was a good night statistically for the Kings who outshot the Caps 39-28, had two powerplay goals and two shorthanded goals, while they held the Caps scoreless on five powerplay opportunities.

These two go at it again tomorrow at 5:00 P.M.
