Kings Sweep Chiefs to Advance to Coastal Conference Championships
The Powell River Kings defeated the Langley Chiefs 3-0 Saturday night to win the series in four straight games. BCHL playoff scoring leader Matt Garbowsky scored twice and Josh Watson made 20 saves for his second playoff shutout. The Kings scored twice just 32 seconds apart in the final minute of the first period. Defenceman Justin DaSilva scored the winner at 19:52 to open the scoring netting his first BCHL playoff goal.
In their nine playoff games so far against Cowichan and Langley the Kings have outshot their opponents 370 to 187 while outscoring them 41-14.
The conference championship series begin on Friday March 19th as the Kings will face either the Nanaimo Clippers or Alberni Valley Bulldogs. If the Clippers advance the series begins in Powell River and if it?s the Bulldogs they host the Kings. Games three and four are set for Monday and Tuesday March 22 and 23.
Currently the Clippers and Bulldogs are tied at two games apiece with game five set for Monday March 15th and game six Tuesday. If necessary game seven will be played on Wednesday in the Alberni Valley.
Last season the Kings won their first Conference title in 14 years. Stay tuned for when the Kings next home game will be played as they look to defend the Coastal Conference.
