Kings skin the Grizzlies 7-1

Kings went bear hunting on Sunday afternoon and promptly skinned the Grizzlies with a terrific defensive effort.

It really was the defense that won the game but out of that came seven goals from a number of players itching to get on the scoresheet.

Oddly enough it's usually the Kings who open the scoring but in this game the Grizzlies got on the sheet first on a goal by Morley.

After that it was all Kings as they pumped in four powerplay goals and three more even strength.

First it was Teagan Waugh and Cohen Adair with powerplay goals to make it 2-1 after the first period.

The league's goal scoring leader, Matt Garbowsky, got the next one on the powerplay to put the Kings up 3-1 after two periods.

After the excitement of the raffle winners during the second intermission, the Kings ran away with it on goals from Pears, Garbowsky again, Bardarson and Klay Kachur.

The Grizzlies had to be disappointed with their effort in the game and coach Vic Gervais was ejected and left with a toss of a stick on the ice and some choice words for the referee.

For their part the Kings settled down after a slow start but stuck to defense – the one thing they know is successful. In the end their strong defensive game frustrated the Grizzlies and opened up a ton of scoring doors for them which they promptly walked through.

Mike Sones didn't score in this game but he was the first to congratulate Kachur on his goal which came on a Sones rebound.

“If we stick to our game plan for example like the game tonight we just dominate.”

He was talking about the ups and downs of the last week of games and some inconsistencies of the Kings.

“The key is not to sink down to the level of some teams,” he explained, “and just play our game.”

He talked about roles and sees himself contributing by, “just hitting, be an energy guy and whenever they ask go out there and do whatever you can for the team.”

That's a big part of the Kings success is the willingness of all the players to do whatever they can to make the team successful.
