Kings snap losing streak with 6-2 win in Coquitlam

Despite not opening the scoring for the first time in eight games, the Powell River Kings played a dominant game for a 6-2 win over Coquitlam.

Just over a minute into the game the Express opened the scoring when Owen Stout sent a pass from the right wing corner that was one timed home by Sam Kozlowski.

The Kings didn’t take long to answer however, and Cam Donaldson tied the game at 5:49 when he took a nice pass from Andy Stevens and fired home a snap shot from the right-wing face-off circle.

Powell River had the lead heading into the first intermission after Tristan Mullin potted a power play goal with just under seven minutes to play in the frame.

Early in the second the Kings got a luck bounce as the puck careened off a skate and flew towards the goal. The puck went past the head of an unsuspecting Lawson Fenton and off the crossbar before landing in the crease. Jonny Evans was doing a fly by of the net and was able to poke it into the net 2:18 into the second.

The Kings began the third period on the power play and it took Donaldson just 26 seconds to find the back of the net again as he walked out from the goal line and slid a backhander through the five hole of Fenton to make it 4-1.

Betts would score four minutes later off a long rebound from a Hunter Findlater shot to extend the lead to 5-1, before the Express were able to get on the board with a power play goal of their own with just over five minutes left in the game.

The Kings answered back to ensure they scored the final goal of the game as Betts fired home his second of the game in the final minute past the blocker of Fenton for his fourth of the year and make the final score 6-2.

The Kings continue their interior road trip with a 7:00 game in Merritt against the Centennials Saturday night before finishing off the trip Sunday afternoon in Prince George.
