Kings Soar Past Eagles

A slow start was quickly set in the rear view mirror as the Kings scored five goals in the second period, another two in the third on their way to a 3rd straight victory and a 7-2 win over the Surrey Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

A start that mirrored Friday’s contest against Alberni. Lots of chances, good setup, but no finish. The Kings outshot the Eagles 10-6 in the frame and had a bulk of the play but found themselves down 1-0 at the break on a puck that snuck through Stefan Wornig from a tight angle.

Whatever was said in the 2nd period must have been effective as the Kings came out to play their game with confidence in the middle frame. Rauser opened the scoring, Evans followed not long after with some nice work off a draw, picking out a puck and out-waiting Surrey goaltender Daniel Davidson for the first lead of the game.

A Surrey powerplay got it back to a level score but that’s when the Kings took firm control of the game. 3 goals in 4:20 kick started by a nice individual effort from Carter Turnbull, then a powerplay goal as Kyle Betts tips home Adam Brubacher’s point shot, then Gavin Rauser’s 2nd of the game on a nice feed through the middle from Brandon Kennedy feed from the Kings own zone.

Into the third and the Kings kept control of the game adding a pair through Evans’ second of the game and Protopoulos scoring in the final minute of play to round out a 7-2 win.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Gavin Rauser (Kings) – 2 goals, 1 assist
  2. Jonny Evans (Kings) – 2 goals
  3. Carter Turnbull (Kings) – 1 goal

The Kings continue a 9-game home stand by entertaining the Coquitlam Express and West Kelowna Warriors at the Hap Parker Arena next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
