Kings win big in fourth straight, 7-1 over Nanaimo

The Powell River Kings evened their record at 4-4-0-0 Wednesday night with a convincing 7-1 win over their division rival Nanaimo Clippers.

The scoring started just 30 seconds into the game when Cam Donaldson chopped a puck over Evan Debrouwer’s glove from the slot. The Clippers would even the scoring six and a half minutes later when Matt Creamer jumped on a rebound and slid it past Brian Wilson.

Tristan Mullin give the Kings the lead just minutes later when he redirected a slap pass from Johan Steen for his third of the season. Mullin scored again just over two minutes later as he snapped a shot coming down the left win that hit the glove of Debrouwer, rolled through the crease and bounced off the post into the net.

The game was delayed nearly 30 minutes late in the first period as the fire alarm went off at the Hap Parker Arena, forcing fans to evacuate the building.

After the final 4:24 of the first period was played, the two teams had a short break before the second period started.

Carter Turnbull found the back of the net for the first time on the night on a shot from the slot just 3:32 into the second. Eight and a half minutes later, Turnbull scored again on a 5-on-3 power play on a one timer from the left face-off circle.

Donaldson capped off the scoring in the second with his third goal in the last two games at 15:04, giving the Kings a 6-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The only goal of the third period was Turnbull finishing off his hat trick with a shot from the right face-off circle off the rush, giving Turnbull seven goals in eight games on the year.

The Kings now look to win their fifth straight game Friday night when they host the Vernon Vipers at the Hap Parker Arena
