Kings win series in five

In a wildly exciting game, Kings came out 5-3 victors to win their series against the Clippers.

Nanaimo grabbed a 2-0 lead late in the first period on a couple of powerplay goals at 18:22 and 19:24.

The Kings responded with a couple of their own early in the second period when they too, took advantage of sketchy calls.

First, Jordan Burns' rush took him around the Clips net where he fed it back to Wright and he let go a shot that was saved by Argue.

The rebound was deposited by Dorantes at 2:55.

Next Kurt Keats, from the behind the net, fed Matt Scarth and he one timed a shot to tie the game at 4:15.

Kings went ahead 3-2 at 16:08 when Jarryd Leung led the charge with his linemates Luke Nogard and Stephen Hiff.

His breakaway shot was blocked by Argue but with the mass of bodies charging for the goal it wasn't quite clear how the puck entered the net.

"I kind of shot glove side and then stuck around and batted at it," said Leung.

"It kind of hit the back of the net," he said, "and I'm not sure why they were talking about it."

The officials gathered for one of their many conferences on the night but Leung said, "I think the Clippers said it didn't go in but it was in for sure and they saw it and called it a good goal."

Clippers ensured fans of an exciting third period when they got their third powerplay goal of the night, a point shot that grazed the post and went in at 19:43.

Into the third and once again it was Leung with his second on a nice solo effort that ended with a high backhand shot that hit the top of the net at 7:11.

"A good hard work goal by Hiff who went to the net," said Leung, "and I kind of just found it and it went in."

That was at 10:59 and from there the Kings again, had success with a strong forecheck to keep the Clippers from scoring.

Very nice to see the two teams shake hands and even stop to congratulate each other on a hard fought and extremely competitive series. Both teams should be very proud of their efforts and performance in the opening series of the playoffs.

Kings now await the winner of the Alberni and Victoria who will play the sixth game of their series on Tuesday and game seven on Wednesday if necessary.
