Kings win third game

The plus minus category was easy to keep track of Saturday night in Chilliwack, with all 8 goals coming on special teams as the Kings got a 5-3 win against the Chiefs at the Prospera Centre. The penalty-filled contest allowed both teams a chance to improve their powerplay numbers, and both teams took full advantage of the opportunity.

The Kings got on the powerplay and on the board early through prolonged pressure through Cohen Adair’s 9th of the season (assists to Craig Dalrymple and Jon Jutzi) just 4:56 into the game. Midway through the 1st, Jordan Benton would get involved in a fight and get jumped by Chief defenceman Gonzalez. The incident lead to a 7-minute powerplay and the same trio would combine again for the Kings to make it 2-0 with Adair’s 10th. Still on the 7-minute powerplay, and on a 5-on-3 thanks to a hooking minor to the Chiefs, the Kings scored again to make it 3-0, this time it was Jon Jutzi’s 3rd powerplay goal of the year, from Richardson and Schmidt. 3-0 after 20.

The Kings came out strong in the 2nd and got some luck. Chiefs defenceman Tyler Miller tried to clear the puck from his own blue line, however his stick broke, and shorthanded Carter Shinkarek in on the forecheck took the puck and went in on the breakaway and stuffed it in forehand to make it 4-0.

The Express would come back with 3 unanswered goals however, two in the 2nd and 1 in the third, with Derek Huisman scoring twice to bring the game within 1 and the Chiefs buzzing. Two late penalties to the Kings made it a 6-on-3 situation, however the Kings were able to ice the game through Teagan Waugh picking the empty net from the faceoff circle to the right of Jamie Phillips put the game out of reach and give the Kings their first win in 4 games.

Three Stars of the Game
