Kohlhauser Named Captain

The Powell River Kings have named 96-born defenceman Jake Kohlhauser has Captain for the 2015/2016 team.

Kohlhauser, out of St. Albert AB joined the Kings earlier this season from the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades. The decision was made after practice on Tuesday as the Kings prepared for a double header against the Bulldogs.

“We got off the ice and in a team meeting it was announced” said Kohlhauser. “I’m very honoured to be named captain, very excited to go on this journey…it’s a big boost of confidence out on the ice”

Kings Head Coach and GM Kent Lewis waited 34 games before deciding on a single leader for the club the rest of the way.

“We gave this some time this year, we’ve had some good leadership in the room but I wanted one guy to speak with and not a committee” said Lewis. “We wanted someone who had a good demeour, was respected by his team mates and the other letter guys this season.”

Despite the added responsibility, Kohlhauser doesn’t expect much of a change to his game.

“I can’t change” said Kohlhauser. “I got the ‘C’ for a reason from the stuff I was doing before, and if I just keep doing what I’ve been doing and try to play more of a leadership role on the team, it’ll be fine. The big thing is to just play my game and help the team win.”
