Lukosevicius Commits to Kings

For Immediate Release

March 28th, 2013, Powell River BC – The Powell River Kings are proud to announce the commitment of 1995-born forward Jarid Lukosevicius to the team for the 2013/2014 season.

For the last two seasons, Lukosevicius has been an integral part of the Vancouver Northwest Giants in the BC Major Midget League, helping them to back to back league championships. He’s also well entrenched in the Powell River Kings organization already. “Jarid is a player who has been in our system since our  spring camp in Kamloops” says Kings Head Coach and GM Kent Lewis. “We’re really happy with his development with the Giants and look forward to him continuing that with the Kings and bringing some offense to the club.”

Jarid’s first impression of Powell River made his choice of where to play junior an easy one. “I went up and I really like the organization” says Lukosevicius. “The staffing was really good. Kent is a really good coach, he hates to lose and so do I.” The 5’11, 165lb forward lead the Giants in scoring, and was 4th overall in the BCMML with 31 goals, 34 assists for 65 points in 38 games. He also held a share of the lead for scoring in the playoffs with 9 goals and 2 assists in 7 games.

Lukosevicius also suited up for the Kings this season, playing in 4 games, including one against the Grizzlies where he recorded 3 assists. That game was a key indicator for him, to know he was ready for junior hockey. “I feel like I could have played in the BCHL this year, but I needed to prove myself, and I did in that game” says Lukosevicius.

The Squamish product considers himself a well-rounded player, willing to do what it takes to win. “I play to win, I don’t play to lose. I block shots, I score goals, I go in the corners, I come out with the puck, I do all the dirty work and I produce points” says Lukosevicius.” I’m a two-way player and I know what my job is with the team.”

Lukosevicius and his Giants play in the Western Regionals against a team from Alberta next weekend, for a spot in the National Major Midget Championships, the Telus Cup. The Kings are following his progress closely, and look forward to having him in Powell River in late August. “We’re very excited to have Jarid join the Kings.  We look forward to helping him prepare for college hockey down the road” says Lewis.

The Kings expect to have a 2nd player commitment to announce in the coming days.
