Macdonald bound for Queens University

Powell River, BC– June 13, 2012, – The Kings are proud to announce that Brendon Macdonald has committed to Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Brendon will be wearing the CIS’s golden Gael jersey in September of 2012.

Macdonald joined the green and gold in January this past season. Wearing number 16, Brendon Macdonald played with heart and soul and became a leader in a few short months. He has the ability to be a game changer whose nose for the net and physicality can often be the spark that a team needs to alter the course of a game.

Kings' head coach and general manager Kent Lewis is proud of Macdonald saying, "We were very pleased to get him at the deadline. He came in paid huge dividends with his grit and some notable scoring down the stretch. He was a great kid and in a short period of time became a key component of the team. We’re happy to be part of helping him get where he is going and he is very deserving of claiming a spot with the Queens University Gaels’ hockey program.”

With education as a top priority for Macdonald, Queens was a natural fit for the Calgary native to continue his hockey career while pursuing a university degree. “Queens is renowned for their strong academic standing nation wide. Hockey-wise, the Gaels’ program is lead by a great coaching staff and is steeped in the history and tradition of Queens’ university. I will be receiving a top-notch education while continuing to develop my skills with a great hockey program.”

Though only a Powell River King for the last portion of his Junior ‘A’ career, Macdonald loved his time as a King. “I really want to extend a huge thank you to the coaching staff and the entire organization for opening up so many opportunities for me. The time I spent in Powell River was incredible. I truly believe that playing for the Powel River Kings is unparalleled to playing Junior Hockey anywhere else in Canada.”
