Magnus Named BCHL Player of the Week

After a stellar 2-0 weekend, allowing just 1 goal on 67 shots, Kings goaltender Brett Magnus has been named the BCHL Player of the Week. To make things better for the Kings, forward Nick Gomerich has been named an honourable mention for the award after a 3-point weekend and a couple of stars. These two ‘nods’ mark the first time this season that a King has been mentioned in the weekly award. Here’s the release from the BCHL:

Powell River Kings goalie Brett Magnus has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2, the league announced Monday.

Magnus backstopped the Kings to a pair of wins over the Nanaimo Clippers in a doubleheader weekend at home and was named 1st Star in both games. The Montreal product made 37 saves in a 3-1 win on Halloween and bettered that the next night when he posted his first BCHL shutout, making 29 saves in a 3-0 victory.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound goaltender helped Powell River get over the .500 mark with the pair of wins and is tied for fifth in the BCHL with six wins.
