Maguire A Penguin

A banner day for Powell River and the Kings, as goaltender (and Powell River’s own) Sean Maguire was selected 113th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Maguire was just the 2nd BCHL player taken (behind Jujhar Khaira of the Spruce Kings at 63rd overall by Edmonton), and just 5 players from BCHL teams in 2011/2012 were selected in the 7 round draft.

In other Kings-related draft news, former goaltender Jamie Phillips was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the 7th round. Jamie had a stellar half of the season with the Kings, before being dealt back to Ontario at the trade deadline. He finished the year with the Toronto Junior Canadians.

I had a chance to catch up with both Sean, and Kings Head Coach/GM Kent Lewis to get their reactions on the news.

You can read the press release from the Kings here, which features more quotes from Sean and Kent, as well as goaltending coach Jeff Battah.
