Misc News: Thanksgiving, Eagles Troubles & Celebration Weekend!

First off, a big Happy Thanksgiving to our strong contingent of American players, parents and fans! Seems this year the Canadians are ragging on the Americans for being a month and a half late on ‘Turkey Day’. One of the better posts I saw was from a former co-worker: Happy month and a half Late Thanksgiving, America! I saw this one at the beginning of October. I’ll spoil the ending for you; everyone’s full and you have leftover turkey sandwiches for a week. Have a wonderful weekend with friends and family!

Secondly, this weekend is the big celebration weekend for the BCHL. If you want to follow all the news and updates, you can follow #BCHL50 or #CelebrationWeekend on Twitter, or go to http://www.bchl.ca for all the information. All 16 teams are paired up in a rivalry home and home double-header, with the Kings drawing the Surrey Eagles. The Kings are at home Friday night, and there’s a 2 adult, 2 youth/children tickets and 2 Kings t-shirts for $50.00! Quality Foods will be hosting a tailgate prior to the game with hot dogs, hamburgers and chili. There will also be seating inside due to the frightful weather…

Which leads me to point #3. The Surrey Eagles are stranded at the moment in an attempt to get over to Alberni tonight to play the Bulldogs. From what I can gather, the team is at Horseshoe Bay trying to get across to the Island. If the weather subsides, and the team gets on the 3:00pm ferry, then the start time in Alberni will be 8:00pm and everything carries on as normal. If that Alberni game doesn’t go ahead, I would assume the Eagles would then head back home and go straight to Powell River tomorrow. Thanks to Evan Hammond for that information via his blog.

2:51pm Edit: The 3:00pm ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo has been cancelled, which means that the game between the Eagles and Bulldogs is also turfed. This means that the Eagles will head back to Surrey and try again tomorrow to get to Powell River.
