Penalty Filled Affair

Game 1: Kings Fall 4-1 to the Eagles

When a team takes 6 straight penalties, it might not be a good night. That was the case for the Kings as a rut to the penalty box lead to 3 powerplay goals from the eagles en route to a 4-1 win.

After taking the first intraction of the game, the Eagles would enjoy much of the 1st period up a man. In fact, from the 11:44 mark of the 1st, the Kings were short handed for all but 1:50, and spent over 2 minutes of the 1st, down 5-on-3. The Eagles were only able to capitalise once in the 1st period, on a nice passing play finished off by Brandon Morley to make it 1-0 Eagles.

Into the 2nd and the Kings got on the board through Matt Scarth’s 9th of the season to tie it at 1. That was short lived as just 33 seconds later, Charles Orzetti would give Surrey the lead, and Sean McGovern would double it at the end of the 2nd for a 3-1 lead after 40. The Eagles would add another on the powerplay through Alex Hagen and win 4-1.

The Kings got more bad news as Sean Maguire was forced from the ice with 7:39 remaining in the game after he was speared in the hamstring by an Eagles stick. It was a tough night for the Kings netminder, who had lots of company in his crease all evening, with 1-2 occasions of players in his net. Jamie Phillips came in relief of Maguire, and stopped a breakaway late in the 3rd and made all 4 saves that came his way. Cohen Adair was also helped from the ice, after accidently getting clipped by the stick of Matt Scarth. He did not return, but should be ok by Friday.

Next action for the Kings is against the Rivermen on Friday night at the LEC. It’s a 7:00pm start and you can listen live on 957 SunFM.
