Phillips Traded Back to Ontario

For Immediate Release:

Powell River – January 11, 2012:The Kings have made a big splash on deadline day in the CJHL, sending goaltender Jamie Phillips back to Ontario, to the OJHL’s Toronto Junior Canadians.

In 26 games this year, Phillips posted a 16-6-1 record, with a league-leading 2.01 GAA and 921 save percentage. He also leads the BCHL with 5 shutouts, his most recent coming last Thursday against the Langley Rivermen. Phillips made a name for himself when he assumed the starters role while incumbent Sean Maguire was at the World Junior A Challenge.

“With Phillips we were in a position where we needed accommodate a player’s wish for more playing time, so Jamie was moved to a team where he will get lots of playing time”, says Kings General Manager and Head Coach Kent Lewis. “In coming here, we worked hard with Jamie and he did very well. Our goalie coach Jeff Battah did a great job in helping coach Jamie to a NCAA scholarship.”

Phillips’ 16 wins is 3rd highest in the BCHL, behind two goaltenders who have played in more games. While with the Kings, Jamie earned a scholarship to Michigan Tech, a NCAA Division 1 school, where he will pursue a degree in Exercise Science, with a goal of going to Med School and becoming a doctor.

The Kings wish Phillips all the best in his future endeavours.
