Potvin and Nelson help double up the Caps

After a thriller on Saturday vs the Chiefs the Kings looked to keep the momentum going at home as they faced the Cowichan Capitals for the first time this season.

The Kings got off to a hot start as Nolan Krogfoss continued right where he left off scoring the first goal of the game 2 minutes in on the powerplay off the rebound on the Mark D’Agostino shot to give the Kings the early goal for a change. The Kings would keep on applying the pressure and added another goal in the final minute of the period as Anthony Lucarelli tapped in the loose puck in the crease to score his 4th on the season, and the Kings would have the lead after the first period for the second time this season.

The Kings would continue to roll at the start of the 2nd and 2:27 in to the period Max Potvin would come out from behind the net with the puck and fire it over the shoulder of Caps netminder Ben Montgomery to score his 1st BCHL goal and give the Kings a 3-0 lead. Both teams would trade chances through the rest of the period with both goalies making saves on breakaways to keep it a 3 goal affair. With 10 seconds left in the middle frame there was a mad scramble in front of Zak Brice as both teams were swatting at the puck to either clear it or put it in, but it was Luke Haymes of the Caps who won and poked it in the net to get Cowichan on the board, but the Kings led 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Kings would head into the 3rd with a 2 goal lead but the Caps looked to cut it down and they did just as their power play expired Brett Fudger would knock in his own rebound from the slot to give the Caps their second goal of the game. Cowichan would continue to apply pressure but Kings were able to withstand it and at the midway point of the period the Kings would dump it in to the Caps Zone. Capitals goalie Ben Montgomery would go out to play it but he would fall down allowing Max Potvin who was chasing after the puck the get it and shoot it in from the boards for his second of the game and to restore the 2 goal cushion. Mason Croucher would return the favour and get the Capitals back within one but the Kings insisted on getting the two goal lead back as off a scramble in front of the Caps net the puck would come to Max Potvin in the left faceoff circle and he would take the shot and it deflected of Kaleb Nelson as the native of Keswick Ontario would get his first in the BCHL to make it 5-3. Nelson would add one more in the empty net at defeat the Capitals 6-3.

Max Potvin and Kaleb Nelson would both finish with 2 goals and 1 assist while Ethan Riesterer and Dylan Finlay would have 2 helpers of their own. Zak Brice made 32 saves to get his 5th win on the season and the Kings penalty kill would to 6/6 and for the first time this season they did not allow a powerplay goal.

The Kings will look to make it 3 in a row tonight and get back to .500 as they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals tonight at the Hap.
