Powell River. Population: +1

After what has to be the longest 3 weeks of my life, I arrived in Powell River this afternoon. I’m set up at my new house and will begin the long (LONG) task of unpacking boxes and making the house a home. Geoff Grimwood gave me the guided tour of the city and the arena, and I haven’t gotten lost yet…so he must have done a good job.

But enough of my personal mumbo-jumbo….KINGS NEWS. Tonight was the annual season pass holders ice breaker event at the Hap. It was apparently a much smaller turn out than last season, perhaps due to the weather, however it was by no means lacking in passion. The support for this team is astounding, with people wearing signed jerseys, team golf shirts and jackets, and engaging in long conversations with the players and staff.

I had the chance to meet a fellow named Bill, who I spoke with for a good 20 minutes. He is a long time pass holder and told stories of games gone by. Bill and his Mrs have seats directly behind the penalty boxes, so I’m looking forward to seeing them in full length green spandex suits, doing handstands (the bar has been set high). But in all seriousness, I was enthralled by Bill’s stories and his devotion to this team showed through in them.

Tomorrow work begins. I’ll be at the rink doing some tests on the webcast and radio equipment, as well as getting some player segments for the season. More later, but for now I’m exhausted. Three straight days of packing, driving and unpacking has taken its toll.

See you at the Hap!!!

PS: 10 days……ARE YOU READY???????
