The Powell River Kings (37-18-1-0) set sail to Vancouver Island this weekend for their final two games of the 2016-17 regular season against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Saturday the Kings are at the Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni where they are 3-0 this season, but none of the victories have been convincing. The Kings have won the three games by scores of 5-3, 4-3 and 5-4 in double overtime this season. In fact, up until their most recent meeting February 7, each game between the Kings and Bulldogs has been decided by two goals or less.
It’s the final game of the regular season for both of Powell River’s opponents this weekend as Cowichan and Alberni go head to head Friday night at the Island Savings Centre in Duncan. The Kings first-round matchup is still up in the air as the Capitals are one point up on the Nanaimo Clippers with both teams having two games remaining.
When it comes to the Capitals, they are the only Island Division team with a winning record against the Kings this season at 4-3. Of course, the Kings and Capitals met in the first round of last season’s playoffs, when the Kings won in six games.
