The Powell River Kings Summer Hockey School’s primary focus is to promote the long-term development of each athlete on the ice and off the ice. Our camps offer an action-packed week of hockey conditioning, skill development and off-ice development for children of all ages and skill levels.
Spend the morning sessions with Kings Alumni Brock Sawyer. Brock played for the Kings from 2006 – 2008 then moved on to play NCAA Div 3 at Elmira College. He spent his last couple of years playing in the SPHL and coaching for the World Class Hockey Academy in Toronto. Brock’s specialty is teaching the fundamentals of skating and teaching position specific skills. Brock is very excited to come out to Powell River and be apart of our summer hockey school and pass on his knowledge of the game!
Powell River Kings Head Coach, Kent Lewis will be on the ice more than ever this year. The past few years Kent has been unavailable for much of the sessions, however he has made time in his busy schedule to come out during the afternoon sessions for this year’s camp. “I am excited about teaching the game and specifics to these young athletes. It is a home run for the kids as they will receive individual skills in the morning and I will focus on reading and reacting to game fundamentals in the afternoon. The Rep players and older groups will specifically benefit from these sessions. What we like most about our hockey school is that we bring kids into our environment for a week where we are able to instil our philosophies and teach them our approach to hockey,” says Lewis. Video will be offered to some of the groups where they will understand the importance of team play, defensive zone play and fore checking. Our maximum for each group will be 20-25 athletes! All participants for each group will have their name put into a draw for a Kings Youth Season Pass.
Let our qualified and friendly instructors improve your child’s hockey skills by focusing on progression and proper technique. Participants will learn new skills and drills in an environment that fosters sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all fun. We believe that young athletes need to be challenged, yet supported, in all aspects.
