We’re Still Here…A Catchup

I’ve been getting a couple of emails and been stopped around town a bit as well, asking about news here on the blog, or the lack of it. Truth be told, it’s August and not much is happening. That being said, it did occur to me that there could be some that subscribe/visit the blog, but don’t engage the Kings on Facebook or Twitter, where I’ve been posting regular tidbits of information, so here’s a bit of a cross over blog post to put rumours of my demise to rest.

Three Things
This is a video feature that I’ve begun in the off-season and will work on throughout the year, basically catching everyone up on the events of the last week or so, and preparing for the week or so ahead. During the season, my goal is to run an episode every week but for now it’s as needed. Episode 1 covered the release of the BCHL schedule and a smattering of player commitments, while Episode 2 (below) focused on the exhibition schedule, some alumni news and looking ahead to a key fundraiser during the season.

Jonny Evans takes Bronze
Jonny Evans was the top scorer at the recent CBHA Ball Hockey Junior National Championships in St. John’s for Team BC. 13 points in 5 games will have Kings fans hoping he can translate success on the floor to success on the ice. Jonny’s performance earned him All-Star Forward honours and a chance to represent Team Canada in June in England at the World’s. Congrats Jonny.

Kings Hockey School
The first event up on the new year calendar is Kings Hockey School, running August 17th to 21st at the Hap. It then leads into Main Camp for the ‘big boys’ the week after. Registration is still open and all the info can be found here.

Wild/Blackhawk Alumni Game Carries Powell River flavour
The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks are due to play an alumni game this season, February 20th at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota. The game will take place a day before the current squads duel off in a Stadium Series event. Think of this like the Edmonton/Montreal Heritage Classic alumni matchup from a few years back. The game will feature former King and Stanley Cup Champion Brad Bombardir, who is not only a pretty good hockey player in his own right, but also the Wild’s current Director of Player Development. More info on the game is here.

That’s it. There will be news of a player commitment from a graduating King coming this week. After that it’s camp, exhibitions, team building and the season kicking off September 12th. I’m sorry for the shortage of posts on the blog
