Bodie Signs with Rangers

After 2 years in Powell River, 4 years at Union College, 2 trips to the Frozen Four and 1 National Championship, defenceman Mat Bodie has signed his first pro-contract, with the NHL’s New York Rangers. The signing comes 3 days after Bodie and Union College won their first NCAA title with a 7-4 victory over Minnesota.

In four years at Union College, Bodie played in 154 games, scoring 28 times and adding 96 assists for 124 points in regular season play alone. He captained the Men’s Hockey team for 2 seasons as a Junior and Senior, playing along side his brother Kyle for 3 years and fellow senior and former King Daniel Carr for all four. In 2 years for Powell River, Bodie dressed 145 times in the regular season and playoffs, scoring 20 goals and 129 points.

Bodie though won’t be joining the Rangers in their first round playoff match-up against Philadelphia, as he has decided to stay at Union for the remainder of the school year and finish his degree. He plans to attend the club’s development camp this summer.

The Kings congratulate Mat on this fantastic achievement.
