Busy Pre-Season

The next exhibition game is coming up on Sunday, with the Kings taking on the Express in Gibsons. The Express have been very busy, and successful this pre-season, going 4-1 in their contests. Puck drop is 1:30, and while I’m sure the locals will come out to see some great hockey, it’d be awesome to see a strong presence from all over the coast.

In addition to Sunday’s tilt, there are a number of events on the calendar. The day after that game, the team will host their Season Pass Ice Breaker for all season pass holders, parents, sponsors and billets. It’ll be my first opportunity to meet a lot of key people with this team, and one I’m very excited about. The event will feature a meet and greet, plus tours of the arena and dressing room.

Then on Thursday, the team is officially introduced to City Council. This is an annual event and one that, I think at least being an out of towner, is a very very cool move from both sides. Speaks volumes of the relationship between the City and the team. That happens at 6:45pm.

Finally, 3 days before the home opener on Tuesday 20th, it’s a chance for all of you to show up the team on the ice and show off your skating and puck handling skills. The classic skate with the community is from 6:30-8:00pm and will feature lots of mini-games and interactive events. This is one event I am really pumped for, so come out and say hi…..I’ll be the one clinging to the side boards, hobbling around and falling over!!!

There are a few more events to add to the calendar, including the Terry Fox Run and PRMHA fall programs. All of these events are just an appetiser to the main course…that’s the home opener on the 23rd at 7:30pm. I haven’t heard anything either way about ticket availability, however don’t leave it too late…because it’s not something you want to be on the outside, looking in. If, for whatever reason you are, the next best spot is within earshot of a radio for all the action on SunFM 95.7.
