Changes Made at BCHL Govenors Meeting

The BCHL recently held its semi-annual Govenors meeting. From this meeting, several new directions were discussed and decided upon during the meeting. Here are the cliff-notes:

  • Number of games will be reduced from 60 to 56 to have more games on Friday and Saturday nights, in an attempt to increase attendance
  • A showcase-style event where all teams play games at a central location will be played September 7th-9th, with teams playing 2 games each that will count in the standings. Following that, all teams will play 27 home games next season.
  • The 2012-2013 season will start September 14th, 2012 and end March 10th, 2013
  • The Conferences will be split accordingly
    • Interior: Merritt, Westside, Penticton, Trail, Salmon Arm and Vernon
    • Coastal (Mainland): Coquitlam, Surrey, Langley, Chilliwack and Prince George
    • Coastal (Island): Powell River, Victoria, Nanaimo, Alberni Valley and Cowichan Valley
  • A new playoff format will be decided upon on February

Some interesting decisions to say the least. To read the full release from the league, click here.
