Clippers double the Kings 4-2

Clippers came back to win the second game of the weekend doubleheader 4-2 on Saturday night.

As much as they would have loved the sweep, Kings didn't quite have the same intensity in game two and suffered the consequences.

They got off to a good start when, after a scoreless first period, Daniel Schuler picked the pocket of a defenseman who was coming out from behind the Clipper net, and he flipped a neat backhand over Bill Faust.

As the Clippers were surprised by the sudden goal, so were the Kings when the Clippers tied it 14 seconds later.

Nanaimo not only tied the game but scored three times in the middle frame to take a comfortable 3-1 lead in the final period.

Kings had their chances throughout the game to put some goals in but didn't and they paid the price of allowing the Clippers to close the gap in the standings.

Nanaimo as much put the game out of reach midway through the third with their fourth goal at 12:01.

Cohen Adair prolonged the agony of defeat when he snapped a wrist shot into the top of the net at 12:52.

Despite pulling Jamie Phillips, Kings weren't able to beat Faust and suffered their sixth loss of the season 4-2.

Assistant coach Chad van Diemen said, "I didn't think we were mentally ready to go tonight."

"We took some undisciplined penalties after we got the first goal," he said, "but we got scored on the next shift."

"It's an important shift and we didn't respond well," he said, "and that's disappointing."

It would have been nice to get both wins as the Kings' next game is against Nanaimo in Nanaimo on Wednesday Nov 16 and these points are big ones.
