Game Day: Kings vs Grizzlies (1:30pm Faceoff)

Two points is two points, no matter how you get it. That’s the feeling around the Kingdom as the team got through a slow game with a big win over the Grizzlies on Teddy Bear Toss night. The same two teams go at it in Powell River this afternoon, here’s the rundown:

The Vitals
Game: Victoria Grizzlies vs Powell River Kings
Arena: Hap Parker Arena
Puck Drop: 1:30pm
Broadcast: Starting at 1:15pm live on 95.7 SunFM

The Numbers
Kings This Season vs Grizzlies: 2-0-0-0
Last Meeting: Kings defeated Grizzlies 5-2 (December 10th)
Kings at Home: 11-2-1
Kings on the Road: 6-7-1-1

What’s What for the Kings
Craig Dalrymple got the elephant in the room ushered out early, scoring exactly 3 minutes into the game to send the bears flying. After that, the game took an awkward turn with a slow 2nd period, Jon Jutzi ejected for a hit from behind and Evan Richardson thrown out for a hit to the head. Richardson will miss the next two, while Jutzi is back today against the Grizzlies.

Coming in for Richardson is Mitch Ball over from the Island and will suit up in his 6th contest this year. Jamie Phillips will get another start as Sean Maguire is still sore from getting hit awkwardly by a shot in practice.

What’s What for the Grizzlies
The Grizzlies powerplay got them back into the game, and took the lead during the 2nd period, but the team didn’t look to threaten too much at even strength. Even towards the end of the game, the Grizzlies weren’t able to get many quality scoring opportunities on Jamie Phillips, and the result showed on the scoreboard at the end of the night.

In order for the Grizzlies to get the win today, they must be better five on five. No-one questions this team in terms of talent, as when Myron, Moran and Murphy are firing, they can take over a game, but the supporting cast needs to help out on the scoreboard. Expect Jamie Tucker to get the start today, with garrett Rockafellow going last night in relief, Tucker (the dominant number 1) will likely see the ice this afternoon.
