Kings let a point slip through their fingers today losing to the Grizzlies 4-3 in overtime.
Despite outshooting the Grizzlies by a wide, 48-25 margin, goals were tough to come by and in the end special teams figured in the decision.
Grizzlies got the only goal of the first period at 11:11 but the Kings got untracked in the second with Jordan Benton down low to slam in a Chris Williams rebound.
Their second came one minute and a half later with Cohen Adair digging out a loose puck in the scrum to give his team a 2-1 lead at 7:58.
Craig Dalrymple broke his stick inside his own blueline and left Mike Collins to scoop up the puck and go in all alone on Phillips where he roofed the tying 2-2 goal.
Dalrymple got that one back when Brenden Forbes centering pass deflected his way and the big defenseman labelled a wrist shot top glove.
Grizzlies were looking tired in the third and it seemed to be just a matter of skating it out when Forbes was called for hooking at 5:38.
Mike Collins made the Kings pay with a powerplay goal and the 3-3 score held up until the end of regulation.
In the overtime Kings' Taylor Carmola got his stick in the skates of Lawson and the referee's arm shot up to signal a 4 on 3 advantage for the Grizzlies.
It took only 14 seconds for Mike Moran's point shot to be deflected in by Ten Vaanholt for the winner at 2:56 of the first overtime period.
After the game (it could have been under happier circumstances) Kings and their society members gathered for a Christmas party with lots of food, a few speeches and lots of mingling between the players and their fans.
A good time was had by all and it should be mentioned that Teagan Waugh not only hustles on the ice but at the competition held during the get together.
Kings head out for a long four game in five day road trip before the Christmas break and send their best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of their society members and fans.
