Gameday: Kings @ Express

On the back of the first loss of the season, the Coquitlam Express will be playing host to an extra movitvated Powell River Kings side in a Thanksgiving Sunday Matinee contest. Here’s the rundown:

What’s What for the Kings?
The Kings were beaten last night by a good Langley team that stayed with the Kings and took advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves. Last night, the Kings were unable to get a solid forecheck going in, and only on a couple of occasions, were able to gain an extended period of offensive pressure. The good news is that the powerplay is finally clicking, with 2 goals last night (and a 3rd only a few seconds after one expired) there is some confidence on the man advantage. The concern is that 5-on-5, the Kings haven’t been scoring much, so look for that to be addressed in the coming games.

What’s What for the Express?
It’s the all Alex show in Coquitlam this year. Alex Petan and Alex Kerfoot are the offensive threats. I know first hand just how good Kerfoot is, especially on the powerplay, with his fluid skating and creative style of play, Kerfoot has no problems either dishing the puck off in the crease, or scoring himself. Alex Petan leads the express in scoring and is the team’s captain. He leads on the ice by example and will be looked upon to get Coquitlam off to an early start. The Express had an off-day yesterday, so they’ve had a chance to prepare exclusively for the Kings and will be looking to send the Kings home 0-2 on the road trip.

What’s on the Broadcast?
We continue our Light the Lamp Player Profile series during the 1st intermission, featuring defenceman Jon Jutzi. Then in the 2nd break, Eddie Greggory, the voice of the Coquitlam Express and reigning BCHL Broadcaster of the Year will join us to talk about the Express this year and what the goals for the season are. Of course the 3-stars of the game in the post game show, the trivia question and keeping you up to date in the world of sports. It’s a turkey-day edition of Kings Hockey on SunFM and the show goes at 1:45pm for the pre-game, 2:00pm for the call.
