Gameday: Kings @ Express

It’s another Kings gameday, and another one spent on the road. The Kings travel from Merritt to Coquitlam for a rematch against the Express, the team that beat them last Sunday for their 2nd loss of the season. Here’s the rundown:

Game: Powell River Kings @ Coquitlam Express
Arena: Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex
Time: 7:00pm Puckdrop
Broadcast: 6:45pm live on 95.7 SunFM

What’s What for the Kings
It’s hard to say that after 3 losses that things are spiralling out of control, and it wouldn’t be fair to say that, but it’s clear that adjustments need to be made. The comments from the coaching staff suggest it’s a largely mental problem, underestimating teams and not playing hard enough against lower ranked (in the standings) teams. If one thing is clear, you can’t rest on what you have done in this league. 6 wins to start the season (10 if you count exhibition) is great, but those 10 wins don’t win you games 11, 12 and 13. That’s exactly what has happened and the Kings are now riding a 3-game losing streak.

What’s What for the Express
The Express are the polar opposite to the Kings. They are on a 3-game win streak, the last of which being against the Kings on Sunday. They haven’t played since then and will be well rested and well rehearsed to take another tilt at Powell River. Can they do it again? Absolutely. The talent is there and the leaders of Alex Kerfoot and Alex Petan came as advertised last weekend, and the defence stood tall when it mattered the most.

What’s on the Broadcast tonight?
We continue our player profile series tonight as we Light the Lamp with Matt Scarth. During the 2nd intermission, this being game number 10, we will get an update from Kent Lewis on the state of the team, his feelings through the first 9 and goals for the immediate future. We’ll also have our trivia question of the night, worth two tickets to a Kings game, as well as the three-stars of the game as Geoff Grimwood (hopefully) on the post-game show!
