Gameday: Kings vs Rivermen (7:30 Puck Drop)

It’s been one hectic day, so I apoligize for the lateness of this game preview. Either way, here it is and this should be a really good game!

Powell River suit up for their 3rd and 4th home games of the season this weekend, Langley suit up for their first game against a team NOT from Surrey. Langley went 1-2 in their mini-series against their cross-town rivals, and won’t see them again for another 60-odd days. The Kings have started 3-0 and begin to get real busy over the next few weeks, and the bus will begin to log up some miles, as many of the next games are on the road. Here’s the rundown:

What’s What for the Kings
The Kings are still missing Evan Richardson and Matt Scarth for tonight’s game, although they will be back for tomorrow’s encounter. The good news is that the team didn’t really miss them, as others picked up the bulk of the scoring, and AP call-ups Garrett McMullen and Brandon Tidy played well in their roles. Cohen Adair again lead the way, picking up 1st star honours for the 2nd time this season. He leads the team scoring with 5 goals, 4 of them coming short handed. Look for the Kings to look to him, Dan Schuler and Teagan Waugh to provide a majority of the offensive pressure.

What’s What for the Rivermen
Their first game against someone aside from the Eagles comes here in Powell River. They lost a tight contest last night 2-1, and trailed by 2 in that one before scoring in the latter half. After learning so much about the Eagles during those three games, the Rivermen run the risk of coming out a little shocked in the opening 5-10 minutes, and will focus on having a good start to overcome the home town crowd, and a Powell River team which has struck inside the opening 5 minutes in all 3 contests so far.

What’s on the Broadcast?
Tonight on the show we continue our Light the Lamp series, this time featuring defenceman Jordan Benton. He tells us a variety of things, and is a good interview. In the 2nd intermission, Langley announcer Brandon Astle will be my guest on the show, talking all things Rivermen, Langley and the upcoming World Junior A Challenge. Of course all our regular features too, the out of town scoreboard, the Three Stars of the Game and Chad van Dieman (I think) on the post-game show. So join Andy Welsh and myself for PARENTS NIGHT here at the Hap, beginning at 7:15pm with the pre-game show online or on 95.7 SunFM!
