Sean Maguire named Pro-Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week (Hockey East)
Maguire stopped 37 of the 38 shots (.974 save%) he faced in the Terriers’ 4-1 road win over Merrimack on Friday at Lawler Arena.
Chuback named Travel USA Co-Goaltender of the Week (Atlantic Hockey)
Chubak helped the No. 17 Niagara hockey team remain unbeaten in Atlantic Hockey play with a weekend sweep over the AIC Yellow Jackets. The junior pushed aside 49 Yellow Jackets shots in 120 minutes of action to extend the Purple Eagles’ current unbeaten streak to three games. In the opening contest, Chubak made 24 saves in the 3-2 victory, including preventing AIC from tying the game with a late-game 5-on-3 opportunity. The following day, Chubak was solid in net, stopping 25 of the 26 shots AIC fired on goal. The netminder wrapped up the weekend with a .942 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average. The Prince Albert, Sask. native is now 13-1-4 on the season, making 569 saves. The five-time AHA Goalie of the Week and two-time AHA Goalie of the Month holds the top spot in the nation in save percentage (.953), and is second in the nation in goals-against average (1.46). His winning percentage of .789 places him third nationally. Chubak has garnered five shutouts this season alone which is also tops in the nation.
Watson named Travel USA Co-Goaltender of the Week (Atlantic Hockey)
Watson stopped 57-of-60 shots and recorded his second collegiate shutout in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Bentley, who entered the weekend as the highest scoring team in Division I. Watson, who made 26 saves in Friday’s 3-0 defeat against the Falcons, was brilliant on Saturday, turning aside all 31 shots he faced in the win. His best save came midway through the second period, when he robbed Bentley’s leading scorer, Brett Gensler, with a glove save from the right circle on a 2-on-1 break. Watson is now 5-6-3 with a 2.82 goals against average and .914 save percentage this season.

Atlantic Hockey
Holy Cross: The Crusaders return to action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19, when they host Atlantic Hockey opponent Niagara. The Crusaders’ 11-7-2 record is their best after the first 20 games since the 2005-2006 season when they were 13-6-1. The Crusaders’ 64 goals scored are their most after the first 20 games since they netted 68 in the 2006-2007 season. Sophomore Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ontario) is already second all-time on the school’s Division I career victories list with 27. His 1,160 career saves are fifth. Senior Kyle Fletcher (Kanata, Ontario) leads the team this season with 18 points. Junior Adam Schmidt (Warrington, Pa.) leads the team with 10 goals. Senior Evan Zych (Kilbride, Ontario) is ranked first on team with 13 assists.
Niagara: The No. 15 Niagara men’s hockey team is 13-3-4 on the season, with a 12-0-1 conference mark that places the Purple Eagles in the top spot in Atlantic Hockey…Purple Eagles completed the weekend sweep over American International over the weekend, dropping the Yellow Jackets 3-2 in the opening game and solidifying the sweep with a 3-1 win the following day…Chris Lochner contributed two goals in the pair of games, while Dan Kolenda (1-1-2), Mike Benedict (0-2-2) and Ryan Rashid (1-1-2) each contributed two points for the weekend… With the victories over AIC, the Purps extend their unbeaten streak to three games…NU continue its longest road trip of the season with a weekend series against Holy Cross (Jan. 18 & 19). As of Jan. 14, Carsen Chubak is ranked first in the nation in a pair of categories–save percentage (.953), and shutouts (5), while his goals-against average (1.46) is second in the nation.
RIT: The Tigers (6-10-4, 4-6-3 AHA) returned the home ice for the first time in 33 days, picking up a weekend split against Bentley, losing 3-0 on Friday, while rebounding to shutout the Falcons, 4-0 on Saturday. On Friday, RIT fired 41 shots on goaltender Branden Komm, but were unable to score. The 41 shots are the most in the Division I era for the Tigers in a shutout loss. On Saturday, RIT scored on its first shot of the game and tallied three times in the first period en route to the win. Josh Watson made 31 saves for his second collegiate shutout, while Brad McGowan, Dan Schuler, Bryan Potts, and Mike Colavecchia scored for the Tigers. Matt Garbowsky dished out a pair of assists. RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 16-6-2 and is 14-5-2 against the Falcons since 2006. Friday’s shutout loss was RIT’s first of the season. The shutout on Saturday was RIT’s 23rd since the start of the 2009-10 season and 29th since moving to Division I in 2005.
CCHA
Northern Michigan: The Wildcats earned four out of a possible six points with a 2-1 win on Friday and a 3-3 tie on Saturday with No. 6 Miami at the Berry Events Center. Northern Michigan i nished 1-1-2 against the RedHawks this season. SR F Matt Thurber had a pair of assists on Saturday and is tied for the league lead in assists with 17. Northern Michigan is 6-4-0 against Ohio State in their last 10 meetings
Ohio State: The Buckeyes had two players return from injury in the series split with Ferris State. SO F Nick Oddo played his i rst game since Oct. 27 at Bowling Green, while FR D Sam Jardine played his i rst game since Nov. 10 vs. Alaska. Both had an assist in Friday’s 3-1 win against the Bulldogs. Ohio State was 7-for-7 on the penalty kill versus the Bulldogs in the series, including 5-for-5 on Friday and stopping a i ve-minute major power play on Saturday. The squad has held its opponent scoreless in seven of the last 11 games (88.2 percent, 30-for-34). Ohio State is seventh in the NCAA in team defense, allowing 2.05 goals a game. The team has held opponents to one goal or less in seven of the last 14 games.
HOCKEY EAST
Boston University: Sophomore Cason Hohmann leads the nation in plus-minus at plus-20…Freshman Sean Maguire ranks seventh nationally in save percentage (.938) and ninth in GAA (1.83) while both marks are tops amongst Hockey East goalies…Both of BU’s freshman goaltenders have posted five-game win streaks this season…Until Wednesday’s overtime setback against Harvard, BU this season hadn’t lost to an unranked opponent, lost a one-goal game or lost when it led after two periods…It also marked the first time all season that BU had a game go into overtime. Friday’s game versus Northeastern on NESN will feature Hockey East’s top two rookie scorers in the Huskies’ Kevin Roy (9-11-20) and BU’s Danny O’Regan (7-8-15)
WCHA
Bemidji State: Bemidji State returns to WCHA action this coming weekend when the Beavers take on Michigan Tech in a two-game set at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton … face-offs are at 7:07 pm ET (6:07 pm CT) both Friday and Saturday … BSU is 5-4-1 all-time versus the Huskies, which includes a pair of overtime losses (5-4 and 2-1) at Sanford Center earlier this season (Nov. 16-17) … Bemidji State completed its final non-conference weekend of the season on Jan. 4-5, earning a tie versus then No. 7 Western Michigan University in the team’s most recent on-ice action … After suffering its worst defeat of the season, 6-0, in the series opener, BSU bounced back on that Saturday to secure a 2-2 tie … The Beavers are now 5-11-4 overall and finished their non-conference slate 1-4-1, which includes a 1-2-1 mark vs teams hailing from the CCHA.
Michigan Tech: The Huskies return to home ice for the first time since Dec. 14-15 vs. North Dakota when they host WCHA-rival Bemidji State this weekend … Michigan Tech has compiled a 2-6-1 record at home this season (compared to 2-6-2 on the road and 2-0-0 at a neutral site) with a 3.1 goals per game average (compared to 2.7 for all games) … Freshman goaltender Pheonix Copley stopped 41-of-42 shots in last Friday’s (Jan. 11) game at Minnesota Duluth … The North Pole, Alaska, native entered the contest with a 125:45 shutout streak which was ended 17:43 into the first period (143:32 total) … Copley, who made a combined 70 saves in the two shutouts at the GLI Dec. 29-30, posted 111 saves on 112 shots (.991 save percentage) in the three-game stretch … Copley owns an .899 save percentage on the season. Last Saturday’s (Jan. 12) loss at Minnesota Duluth was the Huskies first when they had scored four goals or more in a game.
Minnesota State: Minnesota State stands 14-8-2 overall and is 8-8-0 in WCHA games after falling twice in overtime to Wisconsin in a pair of league games last weekend … Winners of 11 of their last 14 games, the Mavericks continue conference action with two games at Alaska Anchorage this weekend. Freshman defenseman Jon Jutzi, who has played in all 24 MSU games in 2012-13, has 1-4=5 on the year and is tied for second on the Mavericks with a +6. Minnesota State has held opponents to three power-play goals in the last 16 games (none in the last seven) and has killed off 50-of-53 opponent power play opportunities during that time … For the season, the Mavericks are tied for 26th in the country with a 83.7% PK mark having killed off 77-of 92-opponent power-plays.
